It recently expanded so that it could offer double the amount of art it did before and is now 170,000 square feet large. This makes it one of the largest museums for contemporary and modern art in the world, and with over 33,000 different works of art, you don’t want to go to San Francisco and miss this amazing art museum. The De Young Fine Arts Museum
Located in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, The De Young Fine Arts Museum opened its doors in 1895 and since has been remodeled more than once due to earthquakes that devastated it. Its offerings include American art from the 17th through 21st centuries, art from the Pacific and Africa, art from the Americas, and international contemporary art as well as textiles ands costumes. With the largest holding of American art in the American West, the museum showcases 3,000 decorative arts objects, over 1,000 paintings, and 800 sculptures. The works presented there are all from the year 1670 to this very day, and The De Young Fine Arts Museum has one of the top ten collections in the world that presents a history of non-indigenous American art.

The Asian Art Museum
With one of the largest Asian art collections in all of the world, The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco opened in 1966 and showcases more than 18,000 pieces of art. The museum is in existence mainly thanks due to the donations and support of Avery Brundage; a Chicago millionaire who donated over 7,700 pieces of Asian art to the museum. It used to share a space with the De Young Museum, but was relocated in 2024 when it simply needed more space to house all of the amazing art it boasted.
