”The Loin Show” - A benefit for ArtSF - San Francisco, CA
ArtSF Aims to Raise Funds for New Community Arts Center

ArtSF will be having another benefit to help subsidize its goal of purchasing and converting a building in San Francisco into a community art center. This space will be an arts community resource center providing studio and gallery space for artists, rehearsal space for musicians, practice space for dancers and performance troupes, artist residencies, a photography studio, and open space for events, performances and community dinners.

The benefit will be hosted by The Shooting Gallery. The benefit, which includes the art opening, will take place on the evening of July 19th. The art show will continue to run until August 2nd. Gallery Hours: noon - 7 p.m. everyday.

The show will feature performances by sAna, somber smoked out dubtronic from Erich von Drek of FiLTHMiLK and Survival Research Laboratories. FiLTHMiLK's cellist Scott Benoit joins in as the warm yin to this yang. A duo simplified - half-improvised unpredictable and always moving. 8 a.m. sunday morning introspection after the worse night of your life.

Terbo Ted will be performing live acoustic versions of songs from his new album 'Terbo Ted is Dead' Free copies of the cd, his sixth, will be available for all in attendance.

Local musician Victor Alarcon will also be playing acoustic guitar.

zerø K (NBC) will be playing original electronic compositions.

DJ Robbie Socks will be spinning hip-hop between musical performances.

Adding to the liveliness of the show. . .
Shanti Lovejoy featuring Alex Lovejoy and Johanna Mattox will be doing Circus Performance

And...

Fred Anderson, a comic magician & juggler, who can be seen every Sunday in his one man show "A Celebration of Silliness" at Comedy On The Square, will be juggling.

Mission:

To create a foundation on which the community of San Francisco’s visual and performing artists can develop unity and solidarity, in order to promote prosperity and self-sufficiency as one evolving entity – long-term sustainability.

What does ArtSF want to accomplish?

- Procure a 10,000-30,000 square foot space and convert it into a community art center.
- Assist artists in realizing their goals by providing workshops, workspace, and a venue to share and sell their work.
- Provide services in arts administration: legal, financial, community, professional.
- Generate revenues to minimize reliance upon grants for the day-to-day operation of the Center.
- Establish a trust fund from which earnings can help to offset capital expenses.
- Provide granting opportunities for the local arts community.
- Actively build community through: events, outreach, programming/workshops and services.
- Creation of a San Francisco Visual and Performing Arts Guild, to foster community and provide leadership for the arts.

What do we need?

- A building located within San Francisco.
- Donations to cover the retrofitting cost, including earthquake retrofit, space build-out, and equipment procurement.

Who will benefit?

- Artists, residents, other arts groups, local businesses and tourists.

What will the Arts Center include/provide?

- Art Gallery - Bike Repair Studio - Computer Lab
- Darkroom - Dance Studio - Film and Video Room
- Metal Shop - Mural Studio - Non-Profit Office Space
- Performance Space with Stage and Lighting
- Recording Studio - Sewing and Costuming Room
- Wood Shop - Administration Office - Library

How will it be maintained?

- Funding generated through: fee for service, art sales, ticket sales from events, capital campaigns, proceeds from grants
