Erik Otto’s Artist Residency at Recology SF

We would like to congratulate Erik Otto, who has just been approved for a residency at the Recology SF from October 1 – January 31, 2024. This program promotes local artists while encouraging the community to recycle creatively. Erik will be allowed 24/7 access to a 2,000 sq ft studio located at the SF Recycling & Disposal Center. He also has permission to gather art materials from the 44 acre refuse, which lends to Erik’s use of wood in most works. Combined with a monthly stipend, this access to a powerful resource is bound to push Erik’s work to new levels. The results will be exhibited at the end of Otto’s residency from January 22-23rd, 2024, and we are eager for the viewing.

Erik has this to say about the project:

“I plan to further my exploration of my iceberg motif, which to me is an allegory that perfectly describes our current economic situation as well as the human condition as a whole. My goal is to create a body of work during my residency based on this theme that will incoporate paintings, sculpture and video art that depicts the long road ahead.”-Erik Otto

And his motto: “We can’t change the world, but we can change the way we live”
