Skinner in Hi-Fructose Vol. 23

Shooting Gallery‘s Skinner is featured in Vol. 23 of Hi Fructose Magazine and Mikl Em wrote a great article on the artist’s new book, Every Man is My Enemy. Read the teaser below and be sure to pick up your copy of Hi Fructose Magazine today!

“Metal. LSD. Dungeons & Dragons. If any of those are important to you, then you’ll dig Skinner’s hallucinatory neon monster art. If you love all three you may want to worship him.

Much of [the book] is comprised by Skinner’s signature monster battle trips in bold black and white or electric Robotron colors. Interspersed are images of his art in other forms: skate decks, outdoor wall pieces, gallery shows, masks, freaky collages of painted-on found photos, and the artist himself working. There are pop culture islands amongst the trolls and demigods like an irreverent E.T., parody and a set of rock star tribute portraits, ranging from Frank Zappa to R.L. Burnside done as rock monsters with a bit of Tiki vibe.”

Shooting Gallery Poster (Peter Judd)

ShootingGalleryRhodeIslandDoor

Peter Judd, a designer that has made work for outfits such as Levi’s, Nike and Guggenheim, created this poster in celebration of the Shooting Gallery’s ninth anniversary writing “located in the lovely Tenderloin, (Shooting Gallery) was one the first major galleries in San Francisco to show street/graffiti artist’s work. It is nowglobally known for supporting all forms of lowbrow art and it’s owner, Justin Giarla, has curated shows around the world. He has also opened a few new galleries in San Francisco. The poster’s copy simply reads, ‘Curating the streets for nine years strong.’ Knowing the poster was going to be plastered on street poles and boarded up buildings throughout the city, I had it printed on Agfa’s Synaps paper so it could easily survive the elements (like a drunken tranny trying to rip it down).”

“PROPHÈTES” by C215

c215

Shooting Gallery‘s own C215 recently opened a new show in Paris titled, PROPHÈTES, located within the Saint-Louis – Pitie-Salpêtrière Chapel. Experimenting with a new technique, the artist uses stained glass made from original paintings, which is then baked and mounted onto light boxes.

“In this particular space, C215 presents a mystical work, embodied by children of all countries. The portraits installed in the Chapel establish a dialogue with the existing religious works, the statues, and stained glass windows. Whereas religious iconography tries to create an ‘opening’ to the realm of the divine, providing the believers with an escape from the mundaneness of earthly life, C215’s children draw the viewers back into everyday living, reminding them, in a way, that heaven and hell are to be found within this world.” – Galerie Itinerrance
