Smile Big for Ron English

Juxtapoz has nice things to say about Ron English. With his big May show coming soon to London town, everyone’s a talkin: get up to speed with the latest from the greatest.

“What makes a Ron English piece of art instantly recognizable beyond its signature photorealist technique and brazen color scheme is the utterly unique way in which the artwork presents a new idea embedded in the familiar, creating progressive mutations whilst referring to historical events.” -Read more at Juxtapoz.com

Shawn Barber in Chilean Art Mag

Shawn Barber blows us away with his ability to translate the original canvas of tattoos-skin- onto a flat, static one. Word of his double-exposure style portraits has reached faraway Chile, where a great art magazine called Joia has taken notice. Their most recent issue highlights Shawn Barber’s paintings of Kat Von D and other installments of tattoo culture, such as the ever-steady gun pictured below. Dig deeper into the issue here.

Fun/Disturbing: On Tender Hooks

We can’t wait to get our hands on Isabel Samaras’ new book, On Tender Hooks. The book release party will be held in conjunction with Isabel’s opening for “Into the Woodz” at The Shooting Gallery on May 9th; but apparently Juxtapoz has already peeped the goods. We found this amusing review in the killer 100th issue, hitting stands any day now.

Sleepy Silkscreens at 4am: Ron English

Shooting Gallery artist, Ron English, boasts a slew of new works now on show at Elms Lester Painting Rooms in London. This is his first solo show in the UK, and he knows how to represent.  Art & Design Films chatted with the big man for 20 minutes about the hard life of an outlaw and his obsession with silkscreen.

Isabel Samaras: A Glance Back, Peeking Forward

Isabel Samaras, our beloved wry romantic, has been so busy painting that she’s barely had time for blog updates. But we forgive her, because perusing through images of her past works, we discovered this delightful painting:

We get wind that her recent works vary in theme from anything previously seen, with brighter bling and stronger criticisms on Disney romance. Look out for Isabel Samaras at The Shooting Gallery this May.
