A Day in the Life of Kevin E Taylor

Enter the life of Kevin Earl Taylor, a painter/zine-maker by day and girl band groupie by night. He sent over a mash up of images to describe such activities, and we especially like the results of his new project: “The Museum Quantity.”

At its first gathering this week, Kevin and Jon Clary invited artists to collaborate on drawings, which they then photographed to create zine pages.

Enjoy these photos and keep an eye out for Kevin E. Taylor’s Terrestrial Syndrome at The Shooting Gallery this September.

Saturday night at The Shooting Gallery was a grand success. Shawn Barber was all smiles as friends from around the country gathered to celebrate his newest installment of the accomplished series, Tattooed Portraits – Snapshots.

In attendance were such legendary tattooists as George Campise, Mike Davis, Grime, and Henry Lewis. Not to mention the comedian Margaret Cho and artists like Isabel Samaras, Van Arno, Aaron Nagel, C3, Kevin Earl Taylor, Mike Giant, Nate Van Dyke, and Jeremy Fish. We were proud to host so many of our favorite individuals in one building and we thank you all for showing support. Enjoy this photo recap of the night.

Shawn Barber in the House

In the House

Shawn Barber is currently occupying The Shooting Gallery and he’s armed with a box of oils, turp, and brushes. As he puts the finishing touches on his portrait of Jo Harrison, bystanders look over his shoulder in amazement. The ease and comfort with which Shawn paints is testament to his veteran status as an oil painter.

Here are a few detail shots to get your mind turning until the exhibition, Tattooed Portraits -Snapshots, is revealed tomorrow night from 7-11pm.

Tonight: Local Love at 666 Gallery

Local Love at 666 Gallery

666 Gallery Presents Local Love

Opening Reception: August 14th 2024 from 7-11 pm.

Closing: Friday, September 4th 2024. Open by appointment

It’s that time of year where people from around the world flock to San Francisco to discover what’s so special about the city we call home. It’s not Union Square or Fisherman’s Warf that make the city so beloved, nor the fashion, the restaurants or the Full House building. What makes us special is that liberal, open-minded sense of reality, knowing every corner holds a new life from the tenderloin to the marina. Local Love is a group art show that pays homage to the local artist in San Francisco. The exhibit includes sculpture, paintings, drawings, photography and installations by a diverse group of artists and friends all living in the Bay Area. Please join us for the opening reception of “Local Love” at 666 Gallery on August 14th 2024 from 7-11 pm. Read more »

Wednesday Walkabout with Bryan Schnelle

Bryan Schnelle put in 110% to install his current show, Suicide Machine, at Gallery Three. The room is simple and pristine- nevermind the 500 ski masks hovering behind you. See what we mean with this short vid and come by Galley Three this month to absorb the full experience.

Together Gallery Digs Wood

Remember Timothy Karpinski, Nas Chompas, and Mark Warren Jacques from The Future Is So Bright? If you weren’t around 666 Gallery last May to meet these great fellows, fret not: they shall be at White Walls this December for our Winter Group Show. In January, they are getting even more personal with a three man show booked at Gallery Three. The guys own a space of their own called Together Gallery in Portland, giving them a platform to show their own art and that of their friends.

Together Gallery’s current exhibition, Wood, features works from Erik Otto, Timothy Karpinski, Nas Chompas, Mark Warren Jacques, and more. With every image we see, this gallery and its artists are beaming stronger on our radar. Enjoy these great works from four tree hugging favorites of ours.

Masters of the Impossible by Ramblin Worker

We suspect that Steve MacDonald has elves living in his studio, because it’s hard to believe how many projects he has a hand in. After concluding a series of projects for the Bicycle Film Festival, including an installation at Huf SF and contributions to the Joyride exhibition, Steve is already looking ahead.

His next show, Masters of the Impossible, opens on September 4th at Rare Device in San Francisco. Just a month later, Steve aka Ramblin Worker will be installing a solo show at our own Gallery Three and we trust that something’s up his sleeve for Upstairs is Where the Magic Happens. After all, he’s Steve.

Steve MacDonald Masters of the Impossible

Check out what Rare Device has to say about Ramblin Worker’s enticing sewed wonders:

“San Francisco-based artist Steve MacDonald creates embroidered paintings on gilded canvases. His work draws inspiration from an eclectic array of sources including Japanese nature scenes, folk art, fantasy, mythology and elements from the urban experience. Taken together, his compositions provoke a variety of spontaneous references through the depiction of fantastical landscapes. A variety of imagery act out fantastical narratives, where tigers, rainbows, cityscapes, skulls and shipping containers are juxtaposed against the backdrop of a traditional Japanese print form.”
