White Walls & The Shooting Gallery in Sunset Magazine

White Walls in Sunset Magazine

We’re proud to be included in Sunset Magazine’s coverage of the San Francisco alternative gallery scene. The magazine’s September Norther California edition is out on stands now and you can find a sweet write up about yours truly on page 32A. They were quick to recognize our “opening receptions are a see-and-be-seen affairs” but that there are plenty other times to visit and fully appreciate iconic works by artists such as Shepard Fairey. Props to Leah Hennen for the thorough inclusion of galleries making a change in our Bay Area.

Behind the Scenes: Kevin E. Taylor

We are always eager to see what Kevin Earl Taylor is up to, and this behind the scenes tour is a special treat. Kevin took the time to document the evolution of a new piece for Terrestrial Syndrome opening September 12th at The Shooting Gallery. We only wish we could dive into this fanciful world for a real shark ride.

Kevin Taylor Playing Tonight at The Rite Spot Cafe

Kevin E. Taylor has been taking advantage of his new spacious studio space in order to put the final touches on paintings for for his upcoming exhibition, Terrestrial Syndrome; but tonight he is switching gears. Aside from painting, Kevin is also an experimental musician. His one-man band, Odes, can be heard tonight at The Rite Spot Cafe in San Francisco.

Come out for a dose of “mellow but eerie ambient soundscapes.” To us, that means Taylor’s music compliments his paintings quite well. This short bio from Odes says it all:

“Odes makes ambient soundscapes. Instrumental compositions are loosely sculpted around melodic armatures, leaving room for re-interpretation and improvisation.”

Stop by The Rite Spot (2099 Folsom Street, SF) tonight from 8-10pm to hear Odes live. If you can’t make it this week, Kevin Taylor is on the musical lineup every third Wednesday, every other month at The Rite Spot.

'Terrestrial Syndrome' Shaping Up

Erik Otto has been making big moves this year: he released a book, exhibited work in two East Coast shows and one Portland show, and even earned an artist residency at the San Francisco dump. We can’t wait to see how his paintings have developed after so much elbow grease.

Here is our second run of preview shots from Erik Otto’s blog. Save the date: September 12th at The Shooting Gallery for the opening of Terrestrial Syndrome.

Erik Otto’s Artist Residency at Recology SF

We would like to congratulate Erik Otto, who has just been approved for a residency at the Recology SF from October 1 – January 31, 2024. This program promotes local artists while encouraging the community to recycle creatively. Erik will be allowed 24/7 access to a 2,000 sq ft studio located at the SF Recycling & Disposal Center. He also has permission to gather art materials from the 44 acre refuse, which lends to Erik’s use of wood in most works. Combined with a monthly stipend, this access to a powerful resource is bound to push Erik’s work to new levels. The results will be exhibited at the end of Otto’s residency from January 22-23rd, 2024, and we are eager for the viewing.

Erik has this to say about the project:

“I plan to further my exploration of my iceberg motif, which to me is an allegory that perfectly describes our current economic situation as well as the human condition as a whole. My goal is to create a body of work during my residency based on this theme that will incoporate paintings, sculpture and video art that depicts the long road ahead.”-Erik Otto

And his motto: “We can’t change the world, but we can change the way we live”

Erik Otto's Golden Ticket: Win a Free Screenprint

Erik Otto’s two man show at The Shooting Gallery is fast approaching, and he is very well prepared. In anticipation of his special edition screen print (to be released at the opening reception of Terrestrial Syndrome on September 13th), Erik has released three golden tickets.

Here’s the game: Erik’s experimental film loop titled Continuum contains images that have been printed on 100 packs of stickers. Within these 100 sets, there are  three “winning stickers” that can be traded for a pre release of Erik’s new screen print. You don’t have to eat hundreds of Wonka Bars to have a stab at this win, and whether you recieve a free screen print or not, these stickers are mouth watering in themselves.

For more info, see Erik’s blog
