Red Carpet: C3, KMNDZ and Akira

Red Carpet

Thanks to everyone who ventured out for C3, KMNDZ, and Akira’s opening reception. All artists were in attendance, traveling from near and far. We were especially touched to see C3′s entire family fly out from Oklahoma to celebrate his biggest exhibit yet.

If you don’t see yourself in these pictures, get on over here before November 7th to see these incredibly detailed works in person.

Earthling from Kevin E. Taylor

Hot off the press: Earthling by Kevin E. Taylor. This 7″ record will drop in early November including a booklet of drawings from KET. From Tick Tock Records:

“The Kevin Earl Taylor test press arrived, it sounds amazing. It will be pressed on swirl wax and come with a hand screened and signed, 10 page bound book of kevin’s art.”

Listen to two of the tracks here and view the accompanying artwork below:

Come by Saturday, October 10th from 7-11 pm to see the finished piece. We hope to see you then!

The Hot Seat: Akira Beard

Akira Beard. Observer of culture. Critic. Painter. And writer. You will at once recognize American icons while squinting your eyes at the text in Akira’s pieces; wondering why Mother Theresa is holding cash money and why Tupac’s portrait is accompanied by the Myriam Webster definition of “commercial.” You may or may not agree with the artist’s interpretation of world celebrities as capitalist pigs, sell outs, or gangstas. Either way, Akira starts a conversation.

We put Akira on the hot seat and this is what we got. Be sure to come by this Saturday, October 10th for the opening of his joint show with KMNDZ and C3 at The Shooting Gallery.

The Hot Seat: C3

Some creators breeze through sketches as a stepping stone to their final product, but C3 is a different kind of artist. He spends up to three months on a single drawing, carefully crafting paper and pencil into an other worldly narrative. Ghosts intermingle with mystical animals and toe tags of the deceased become canvas in the mind of this practiced artist.

We are proud to welcome C3 into The Shooting Gallery on October 10th for his joint show with KMNDZ and Akira. In response to our interview questions, C3 did what he does best: burning, tearing, and delicately drawing to create a personal message from him to you.

The Secret Window

When one visits The Shooting Gallery, its physical proximity to White Walls is so obvious that the galleries are often confused with each other. But we understand that the interweb meddles such relationships, so at the end of each week we will remind you who’s next door. Click the images below to explore White Walls News and have a killer weekend.

The Hot Seat: KMNDZ

We asked each of our October artists to delve deep into their subconscious for a quick interview. We found that KMNDZ, C3, and Akira can’t touch a piece of paper without demolishing its every blank spot with doodles, thoughts, ideas and a few coherent sentences. Click below for KMNDZ’s turn at The Hot Seat and be sure to come by next Saturday, October 10th for his opening at The Shooting Gallery.
