Black is Back with Bryan Schnelle

A dark cloud has descended over Gallery Three this week, bringing with it gallons of black paint and hundreds of masked faces. Step into the world upstairs for a poignant critique of American society, but coupled with a healthy sense of humor.

We hope you will venture up to Gallery Three this fine Saturday to experience Suicide Machine by Bryan Schnelle.

Get Hip with Sezio's Artist Tees

The good people of Sezio are launching a new artist t-shirt series, and they are off to a great start with four talented artists. The first run of shirts includes designs by Wes Bruce, Andrew Heine, Joel P West, and our very own Mike Maxwell.

All sale profits will be split between Sezio, a non profit, and the emerging artists responsible for the screen prints. We can vouch that these tees are soft and cuddly, as they are printed on American Apparel‘s unisex jersey T. Click here for Sezio’s online store.

Ron English Paints Pretty Girls at SDCC 2025

Ron English was in high demand at San Diego’s Comic Con 2025. In between signings and the Perversity Panel with Isabel Samaras, English took a moment to paint topless models at the Planet Illogica launch party. Two of our favorite art go-tos, Arrested Motion and Daily DuJour, were there to photograph Ron getting down with some pretty ladies.

WORD from Danielle Steel x Greg Gossel

Greg Gossel art

Danielle Steel is no stranger to San Francisco’s art scene. In fact, the renowned bestselling author curates a show every year at Andrea Schwartz Gallery in the SOMA district. This year’s installment is only a day away.

Titled WORD, this group exhibition includes Greg Gossel, Cara Barer, Patrick Dintino, Mitch Jones, Jack Balas, BEN, Ian Everard, Sofia Harrison, Wes Hempel, Jerry Kunkel, Samuel Messer and Wendy Robushi. The opening reception will be held Wednesday, August 5th, from 5:30-7:30pm.

We love these words from the curator herself:

“WORD.  The very sound of it is such a strong message.  There is so much contained in that single word.  So much you can express with words.  I’ve always been fascinated with paintings that have text in them, and enamored with both worlds: art and the written word.  One is my passion, and the other a lifelong career, and what could be better than blending the two.

We have combined both elements in this show, and sought out artwork that includes text in the body of the work.  It gives the art yet another dimension.  So we bring you the beauty of the art…. and the power of the WORD.” -Danielle Steel

Exclusive Interview: Shawn Barber

In anticipation of Tattooed Portraits-Snapshots

opening Saturday, August 15th

Interview by The Shooting Gallery

Shawn Barber portrait

Shawn Barber paints what he knows. His models are friends and colleagues, creators and innovators. He paints the individuals who exist on the fringe of society within a thriving tattoo subculture. Referencing the physical aspects of those who inspire him, Shawn maps the life stories of these models using their body art as the legend. He exposes the most intimate tattoos of his subjects; those which are normally hidden from view but which are closest to the heart.

This oil painting enigma is also a teacher and a tattooist himself. When not keeping company with San Francisco’s prominent creative minds, Shawn can be seen riding his bike in the city or tattooing at 7th Son. When we sat down with Barber to ask about his first tat, the benefits of Facebook, and how he gets the most out of his models, we found out so much more.
