My Mythology
White Walls/Shooting Gallery is pleased to present the new work of Florida based artist, Ted Lincoln, in his latest exhibition titled MY MYTHOLOGY. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 16 from 7 pm to 11 pm and will be on view through June 6, 2024 and is free and open to the public. Ted has shown with out gallery for over a year and this will be his first solo exhibition with us.
Ted Lincoln’s new works are heavily influenced by science fiction and more importantly the epic movie saga STAR WARS, which heavily inspired his generation growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. Ted fuses his skills in the mother of pearl inlay process with his relation with popular culture and art, creating a new sub-genre in art. Ted Lincoln also achieves the task of bringing something of popular culture into the forefront of contemporary art as did with the early Pop Artists of the 70’s.
“I like to believe I have a firm grasp of my identity. Yet, given the context of vast historical shifts within my lifetime, the clashing of cultures that form my understanding of the world, and the divergent environments within and between which I move, it is, truthfully, more a grouping of evolving notions than one static definition.”
“This constant changing, fracturing, and reintegrating is reflected in my newest work. I have taken two different art forms that, during my childhood, remained on the periphery of my awareness of art and yet made a distinct, enduring impression: the traditional Asian mother of pearl inlay lacquer works, and the truly Floridian style of cypress wood folk art. The process of fusing these two different techniques and then incorporating pop culture images from sci-fi films, comics, and television that have burned themselves indelibly into my consciousness mirrors my own complex and ever-changing negotiations of personal and social identities interlaced with different temporalities and geographies. “ - Ted Lincoln
